Anita Archer - Portland, OR
Dr. Anita Archer serves as an educational consultant to state departments, county agencies, and school districts on explicit instruction and literacy instruction. She has taught elementary and middle school students and is the recipient of ten Outstanding Educator awards. Dr. Archer has served on the faculties of San Diego State University, the University of Washington, and the University of Oregon. She is nationally known for her presentations and publications on instructional procedures and literacy instruction and has co-authored numerous curriculum materials with Dr. Mary Gleason including the REWARDS reading and writing intervention programs (Sopris Learning). Most recently, Dr. Archer wrote a textbook on explicit instruction with Dr. Charles Hughes entitled Explicit Instruction: Effective and Efficient Teaching (Guilford, 2011).

Anne Berchtold grew up in Sydney, Australia. It was there that she was exposed to Direct Instruction and a plethora of people involved in research. This had a profound effect on her and kindled a passionate interest in how students learn to read. In addition to teaching, Anne and her husband established a Clinical Practice where they used Direct Instruction programs exclusively to remediate and accelerate students' learning. In 1990, they moved to the United States.
Anne has experience teaching at the Elementary, High school and college levels. She is on the faculty at Edison State College where she taught Educational Psychology in the Teacher Preparation Program and later Reading Courses. She has been a presenter and trainer at school, district, and state level conferences. Currently, Anne is a Reading Coach with the Lee County School District, FL. She provides Professional Development and support to her colleagues with a focus on increasing student learning. She holds a Degree in Education from Australian Catholic University; a Degree in Elementary Education from the University of South Florida; and a Masters in Special Education from the University of South Florida. In Anne's own words, "Reading is the passion of my professional life. I am dedicated to continued support and promotion of Direct Instruction and the pursuit of quality instructional practices in reading which bring joy and fulfillment to learner's lives."

Frances Bessellieu is the president of Side-by-Side K-12 Consulting. Working with schools, districts, and states across the country, she advises them on academic improvement with a focus on literacy. The approach includes professional development, instructional leadership, coaching, data analysis, and support for intervention. Frances is co-author of Word ID: Assessment Across the Content Areas. Molly Blakely - Missoula, MT

Molly Blakely graduated from the University of Oregon where she received a bachelor’s degree in History and a dual degree in Secondary Education and Special Education. Molly studied under the father of Direct Instruction, Siegfried Englemann. Upon graduation, Molly moved to New York City where she taught school for seven years and was the director of an after-school tutoring center. Between jobs, she found time to earn her master’s degree from Columbia University. Molly then moved to Seattle and worked as a grant coordinator for the Washington Research Institute, where she managed grants related to best practices in elementary schools. In addition, Molly was a lead consultant for Project Follow Through, managing school implementations in Guam, Michigan, New Mexico and Mississippi. Molly received a doctorate degree in curriculum and instruction from California University. She then, along with two colleagues started a company called Educational Resources, Inc. ERI provides educational training and consultant services to schools and school districts across the country. Molly is currently the President of this company, employing over twenty-five people nation wide.
